How To Make 2020 Your Best Year Yet

Make 2020 Your Best Year

We have entered a brand new year, 2020. A year that opens a new decade where we can turn dreams into reality and improve many aspects of our life. In order to make 2020 your best year yet, here are some tips to stay focused and reach those new year resolutions and make this year, just right.

Reflect on the past year

In order to grow as a person, you need to take time to reflect on any achievements, big or small. It is important to know where you currently stand and how far you have come. To make important changes, think back on actions that took you closer to your goals and one’s that took you one step back. We are not perfect human begins. Acknowledging that it is ok to make mistakes helps you evolve. Things that did not turn out as you expected will only eliminate your options and eventually lead you to the right path. Keep in mind, that self-reflection is not the same as judgment. Do not judge your path but rather observe it.

Find what moves your world

What is important to you? Is there something specific that makes you happy? What makes you excited to get up in the morning? What do you enjoy doing? Find all those things that keep you motivated and make an effort to incorporate more of it into your life. Think of it as a 5-year or 10-year plan of what you vision your life will be in the future. Make categories for every aspect. Do not just limit yourself to one simple aspect of life, such as work, possible adventures, or your love life.

Life is the ensemble of all those things, but also many more. Think carefully about your categories and list what you wish to achieve in each and one of them. It could be things as simple as wanting to travel the world, improve your appearance, or create a great project or company. The goal to find the things that excite you and bring you closer to your end goal in each category of life. To give you some hints here are some simple categories: love, finance, spirituality, adventure, health, and knowledge… Now that you have some examples, search within yourself things that bring you excitement.

Make room for something new

In order to make 2020 your best year yet, let go of things that no longer benefit you to make room for things that do. Putting things in the past can be hard at times but in order to bring in something new, you need to make space for it. Declutter your life. Let go of those dead-end relationships that you might have been holding on in fear of not finding someone better. Change personal habits that do not serve you any longer. Get rid of all those belongings that only occupy space. Letting go does not have to be from something physical, it can be behaviors, ways of thinking, and “opportunities”.

Cut out or reduce all those things that are not supporting you and helping you expand in your new path. Life just like the economy, it has an opportunity cost. Investing your time and energy in something that is no longer good for you is only making you lose the opportunity to dedicate it to something that would bring you better results, joy, and happiness.

Create a vision board

It is scientifically proven that seeing material proof of something increases the possibilities of it becoming a reality. This point does not necessarily have to be a physical vision board. It can be something that works for you to see the bigger picture of what you wish to achieve. An image in your mind, a collection of pictures on your computer, or your social media of choice can be your vision board. A drawing that pushes you to take inspired action and visualize what you wish to achieve with the year will work as well. This will bring us to our next point, goal setting.

Set your goals

If you want to get things done, you need to distinguish what you wish to achieve. This is slightly different from finding out things that make you happy and you might want to achieve in the long term. This is about what do you wish to achieve here and now. While traveling the world might be something that has the potential to move you and be one of your end goals in life, this might not necessarily possible right now.

This is the area where goal setting comes in. What do you wish to achieve here and now? What do you want to make a reality this year? Write all those down and give yourself time to achieve these goals. Keep in mind that although it is important that you give yourself a timeline that holds yourself accountable, you should avoid getting stressed if you do not reach those goals within that time frame. Instead, try to divide your goals into achievable sections and list them along with things that you can do as of now to make you get one step closer to those goals.

Get out of your head

Make 2020 your year by not overthinking and living in the now. A very famous quote states that “life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans”. This seems to be quite a truthful representation of life today. We tend to overthink the past and worry about the future. We constantly think about what we should have or could have done then and continuously think about all the possibilities that could happen in the future. More often than not, following a worst-case scenario kind of vision.

Yes, it is important to know about what you want to achieve and how you can achieve it, but even more important is to live in the present. For all we know, we might not be here tomorrow. Dedicate your time to live in the moment and enjoy and learn what life has to offer.

Check your to-do lists

Check all those things that you have been meaning and wanting to do for the past year. Decide what you might still need to do but also completely remove what is no longer relevant and will be a waste of your “new” time. Leave the past in the past and bring yourself up to date.

If you do not have a to-do list yet, l highly suggest you create one. It is a great way to declutter your mind and write things down so you do not have to constantly worry about them. Write everything that has kept you preoccupied and categorize it by three standards. What is important, what is urgent, and what needs to be done but might not either be urgent nor important. Once you have that list, put it on your desk or place of work and free your mind. It is already written, so you do no longer have to constantly worry about it.

Although these are just some small tips, we truly hope they make 2020 your best year yet. From SUITMAKE, we wish you the best and a prosperous new year.
